What is Going on with School Finance in Texas?

Published Friday, February 8, 2019 2:00pm

School funding depends heavily on property taxes and has created the Robin Hood issue that even Governor Abbott has admitted is “flawed” and has “failed our schools.” What exactly is Robin Hood? How is it affecting our local school districts? How does school funding actually work? How do we fix the “flawed” program?

Comal ISD Superintendent Andrew Kim will give a presentation on school finance, property taxes and Robin Hood to the Chamber’s Government Affairs Committee on Thursday, February 14 at 7:30 a.m. in Honors Hall. He’ll explain how school funding works and how Robin Hood is impacting our local students. This will be a hot topic during this Texas Legislative Session as Gov. Abbot has vowed to dismantle the Robin Hood scheme. Make sure you’re educated on the topic and up-to-date with what’s going on in our education system.

You do not have to be an official committee member to attend, but you do have to be a Chamber member. Pastries, coffee and a compelling discussion will be provided.
