Two Opportunities This Week for S. Castell Project Information

Castell Project 2017-GraphicThe relocation of the former New Braunfels City Hall on S. Castell Ave. has provided a once-in-a-generation opportunity to guide a catalytic development for the community in a strategic area. Come hear and see the latest recommendations from over two years of citizen input and planning from Douglas Architects at two meetings this week.

First, on July 17 at City Hall, the New Braunfels Industrial Development Corporation (4B Board) and City Council will hold a joint workshop beginning at 5:30 p.m. Then on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at McKenna Events Center, the Greater New Braunfels Economic Development Foundation (EDF) will host their quarterly luncheon featuring the S. Castell project process to date. This is a ticketed event and tickets are sold out.

The S. Castell redevelopment plan was an outgrowth of the 2010 Downtown Implementation Plan and the 2012 Economic Development Strategy adopted by the City Council. The property housed the former city hall. Currently, the property still includes the city garbage trucks and recycling center, and fire training. The former city hall now also includes County Court at Law #1 under a short-term lease to Comal County while the Landa Building off Main Plaza is being remodeled.

The site also includes a 3+ acre parcel utilized by Union Pacific Railroad for their area service yard. Earlier this year, the 4B board purchased the 1 acre former Chase Bank drive-thru property at the corner of Coll and Castell.
