Texas Retired Teachers Association (TRTA) Founded in 1953 has 96,000 members for retired personnel. The New Braunfels Retired Teachers & Associates (NBRTA) founded in 1972 is the local unit with 344 members and works closely with community and state leaders to advance and protect the benefits of all TRS retirees. Examples of their involvement include supporting TRTA lobbyists, Tim Lee; TRTA state conventions and meetings; NBISD & Comal ISD scholarships for student teachers and current teachers; relief fund grants for retired teachers; tutoring and volunteering for retirees; and classroom donations of books.
