NBU Employees Awarded Chair of the Board Award

Published Monday, April 19, 2021 1:00pm

During the monthly Chamber Board of Directors meeting on Monday, April 19, Chair of the Board Nathan Manlove awarded his second Chair of the Board Award. The Chair of the Board award is designed to honor individuals who have made a significant contribution to the community in a specific field of civic endeavor.

The employees of New Braunfels Utilities have been selected as joint recipients of the Chamber’s Chair of the Board Award in the field of disaster response for their collective efforts during the winter storm in February 2021.

On February 15 after ERCOT issued an Energy Emergency Alert Level III that directed utility providers across the state to implement rotating outages, NBU followed this directive with 80% of their total customers impacted. Outages created numerous issues such as blown transformers, broken water mains and pipes, and low to no water pressure for many customers. As temperatures continued well below freezing over the next few days, the NBU Team responded with courage, skill, and tireless determination to provide essential services despite formidable weather conditions. Electric operations crews worked 24-hour days for a total of 3,058 man hours in highly hazardous conditions without a single safety incident.

For these reasons and many more, the Chamber of Commerce is honored to provide employees of New Braunfels Utilities with the Chair of the Board Award in the field of disaster response.
