It is an honor to announce that Mary Ann Labowski has been selected to receive a Chair of the Board Award for the promotion of community heritage. No more than six such awards are bestowed each year, and her efforts chairing the New Braunfels Día de los Muertos Festival more than qualifies her for this honor.
Born and raised in this community, she is a third-generation New Braunfelser and a graduate of New Braunfels High School. She has worked for the New Braunfels Herald Zeitung, the New Braunfels Chamber, and the City of New Braunfels where she currently serves on City Council representing District 5.
She is passionate about serving her hometown. She has proven this by volunteering for various local organizations and events including Wassailfest, Bras for a Cause, and the New Braunfels Railroad Museum. She is also passionate about celebrating culture and community and has proudly chaired the Día de los Muertos Festival for the past six years.
Throughout those six years, she has helped grow an event that started in a small parking lot to an event that fills the streets of downtown with vendors, food, and music. Through meticulous planning and a keen understanding of the significance of Día de los Muertos, the festival has become a showcase of the rich cultural heritage of New Braunfels, attracting not only locals but also visitors from neighboring communities.
For these reasons and many more, she will be further honored at the Chamber’s annual banquet to be held January 26, 2024.
