LT. GOV. DAN PATRICK TO ADDRESS TEXAS LEGISLATIVE CONFERENCE

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas – The Greater New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce’s 53rd Annual Texas Legislative Conference will include a special address by Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick on Friday, March 22 at the New Braunfels Civic Convention Center. The half-day conference will also include panels with elected officials, media pundits, and subject matter experts discussing important issues affecting Texas.

Patrick was first elected Lt. Governor of Texas in 2014 and re-elected in 2018. Prior to that, he was twice elected to the Texas Senate representing part of Houston and Northwest Harris County. He is a small business owner, radio host, former television anchor, sportscaster, musician, Christian author, and movie producer. As. Lt. Governor, he serves as presiding officer of the Senate, appoints the Senate committees, and casts the deciding vote in case of a tie. The lieutenant governor also serves as chairman of the Legislative Budget Board and the Legislative Council. Patrick’s address will take place at 10:45 a.m. and will focus primarily on property tax and school finance reform.

The full event begins Thursday, March 21 at 7:00 p.m. with a Texan of the Year Reception honoring retired U.S. Congressman Lamar Smith who represented Texas District 21 for 32 years. Smith is being recognized for his bipartisan efforts and effectiveness while in office.

The Friday Conference begins at 7:45 a.m. with registration and breakfast followed by a welcome from Conference Chair E. Ray Covey and the presentation of the Edmund Kuempel Public Service Scholarship Awards by State Rep. John Kuempel. The panels kick off at 8:55 a.m. with Changing Demographics of Texas moderated by Ray Perryman with panelists State Rep. Donna Howard, Blue Cross Blue Shield President Dan McCoy, former U.S. Census Bureau Director Steve Murdock, and Dallas Federal Reserve Bank Economist Pia Orrenius.

Immediately prior to Lt. Governor Dan Patrick, Co-Founder and Executive Editor of the Texas Tribune Ross Ramsey will lead a Property Taxes and School Finance panel with Senator Paul Bettencourt, Senator Kirk Watson, and John Colyandro, Policy Director with the Governor’s Office. The final panel, Transitions in the Legislature, will take place at 11:05 a.m. with Texas Association of Business CEO Jeff Moseley as the moderator and panelists Senator Pete Flores, State Rep. John Turner, former State Rep. Larry Gonzales, and former State Rep. Paul Workman. U.S. Senator John Cornyn has been invited to give the luncheon keynote address.
