County Burn Ban Lifted

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, JULY 10, 2018:

NEW BRAUNFELS  — Outdoor burning is once again allowed after County Judge Sherman Krause lifted the Comal County burn ban as of noon today.

The Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KBDI) released on Tuesday was below 500, the threshold at which the burn bans are typically implemented. Every 100 points of the KBDI is roughly equivalent to an inch of dry soil depth.

“The rain Comal County saw over the past week, and especially the heavy rain that fell yesterday, has made brush wet enough to make outdoor burning safer,” said Comal County Fire Marshal Kory Klabunde. “If the weather dries out and heats up in the coming days, and conditions become unsafe for burning, we will ask the Commissioners Court to reinstate the burn ban.”

Residents conducting burns on their property are encouraged to use caution and have a water source nearby, Klabunde said.
